Ainsley Seago Our first stop in Santiago is the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural-- the Natural History Museum, like the Smithsonian in Washington, DC. One of the best parts of being a biologist is being allowed to go "behind the scenes" in museums, to look at the vast collections that aren't on display to the general public. Mario, our host, helps us look through the collection for items of interest. More importantly, he has also brought out a box of rare, unusual beetles that nobody in Santiago can identify. Good thing we brought Dr. John Lawrence, who knows almost everything there is to know about beetles.
