Although few plants grow on this dry, acidic soil, there are quite a few small, tough shrubs and hard-leaved trees. Juan-Enrique showed us how to look for the buprestid beetles that were flying from bush to bush out on the open ground. (like most beetles, they're pretty slow, awkward fliers, so they're pretty easy to catch in the air)
