This particular elaterid larva tried to take a bite out of Elizabeth. As you might expect, a beetle that spends most of its young life chewing through wood has extremely powerful mandibles; bites from wood-boring beetles can be pretty painful. The perpetrator pictured here wound up in a vial of ethanol for his bad behavior.
